Welcome to Trailhead Psychotherapy

Proud member of Parasol Wellness Collaborative

About Me.

Hello, I'm Sarah Todey. I'm a daughter, sister, friend, and therapist who believes healing happens through authentic connection. I strive to create a warm, compassionate space where clients feel safe enough to explore who they are, what they've experienced, and who they want to become.

I work with individuals and families across the lifespan and welcome clients of all genders, sexual orientations, and identities. As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, I believe identity, sexuality, and gender deserve to be explored with curiosity, acceptance, and compassion.

Many of the people I work with struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem, self-doubt, guilt, and people-pleasing. Together, we work to strengthen self-compassion, develop healthier relationships and boundaries, and reconnect with the parts of themselves that may have been lost through difficult life experiences.

I also have specialized interests in supporting survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault, as well as providing cancer-focused mental health care. Whether you are navigating a new cancer diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, recurrence, caregiving, or grief, therapy can offer a place to process the emotional impact of cancer and find support throughout your journey.

Nature, creativity, and spirituality are also important parts of my life and often influence my therapeutic approach. I believe healing isn't just about reducing symptoms—it's about reconnecting with yourself, discovering meaning, and creating a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.

Over the past several years, I've worked in crisis services, care coordination, and psychotherapy. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of meaningful change. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me. I would be honored to learn about you, answer your questions, and see whether we're a good fit for your therapy journey.

Theorical orientation and education.

To me, therapy is like providing a space for you to take a break from the long, challenging journey that is life. Imagine that living life is like going on a big backpacking trip. Along the way, we'll encounter all sorts of obstacles, meet new people, and have intense emotional experiences. We'll end up carrying these things with us in our backpack, but we're not always taught how to manage the load. Sometimes we need to stop, rest, check the map, unpack, and reorganize to be able to move forward.

My approach to therapy is holistic, grounded in Adlerian theory, and emphasizes mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral interventions. I believe that authenticity and self-expression are like our map and compass on the journey of life. I'm always learning and exploring new techniques and processes to better serve my clients.

I earned my Masters in Counseling and Psychological Services from St. Mary's University in Minnesota (spring 2022), and I am currently pursuing my License Practitioner of Clinical Counseling (LPCC) under the supervision of a wonderful mentor. When I'm not working, you'll find me in the woods near the Boundary Water Canoe Area, foraging for mushrooms or relaxing in a hammock. In the winter, I enjoy Nordic skiing or curling up with a good book. I'm also interested in pursuing yoga and meditation certifications because I believe in the importance of strengthening the mind-body connection for overall health and well-being.
