About Me.

Hello, my name is Sarah Todey I am a daughter, sister, partner and therapist. I like to work with others uncovering identity which means I tend to take young teen/young adult clients as well as their families. I am LBGTQ+ allied and think sexuality and gender should be positive exploration. I have a deep connection with nature and spirituality. This appears in my work by encouraging self expression during sessions, I believe these acts inform our intuition. I work primarily with diagnosis's of depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders-life transitions, grief, and trauma.   I have been in the mental health field for the last five years working in crisis and care coordination roles, and most recently as a psychotherapist. I have learned the relationship between a therapist and client is a sacred one and that this relationship is the single most important factor in positive therapy outcomes. Thank you again for taking the time to learn more about me. I would love to learn more about you and see if this is a good fit or if I can help you find the right therapist.

Theorical orientation and education.

To me, therapy is like providing a space for you to take a break from the long, challenging journey that is life. Imagine that living life is like going on a big backpacking trip. Along the way, we'll encounter all sorts of obstacles, meet new people, and have intense emotional experiences. We'll end up carrying these things with us in our backpack, but we're not always taught how to manage the load. Sometimes we need to stop, rest, check the map, unpack, and reorganize to be able to move forward.

My approach to therapy is holistic, grounded in Adlerian theory, and emphasizes mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral interventions. I believe that authenticity and self-expression are like our map and compass on the journey of life. I'm always learning and exploring new techniques and processes to better serve my clients.

I recently earned my Masters in Counseling and Psychological Services from St. Mary's University in Minnesota (spring 2022), and I am currently pursuing my License Practitioner of Clinical Counseling (LPCC) under the supervision of a wonderful mentor. When I'm not working, you'll find me in the woods near the Boundary Water Canoe Area, foraging for mushrooms or relaxing in a hammock. In the winter, I enjoy Nordic skiing or curling up with a good book. I'm also interested in pursuing yoga and meditation certifications because I believe in the importance of strengthening the mind-body connection for overall health and well-being.
